Building Reps

Our thirty two building reps play a vital role in the leadership structure of White Bear Lake Area Educators.  They offer immediate, on-site support and communication to the members in their building and represent their interests at monthly Representative Assembly meetings.

The Representative Assembly consists of one Assembly rep for every 20 members of a building (or major portion thereof).  It holds full legislative powers and responsibilities for White Bear Lake Area Educators, beyond those delegated to the Executive Board and the Executive Committee.  Representatives to the Assembly bring member concerns to Rep Meetings and report back members via monthly ten-minute building meetings.   There are nine scheduled Rep Assembly meetings each year;  all members are welcome to attend.

Claire joined the White Bear Lake School District in the fall of 2019 as a Special Education Teacher at Central Middle School, and is currently in her 9th year of teaching. Prior to working in WBLAS, Claire was a building rep and government relations rep in her previous local bargaining unit. A firm believer in the Wellstone principle that "We all do better when we all do better," Claire's involvement with union work is driven by an urgent value for educator voice, rights, and ownership of our labor in order to raise the education profession. Claire loves family time and spends her downtime enjoying live music, serving in her role in her local city government, and spending time with the indoor and outdoor family pets.

In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, reading, and staying busy as a mom of two young children.

Christina Freeman has been teaching Family and Consumer Sciences at North Campus for four years, and serving as building rep for North Campus for 2 years. She is also curriculum lead for her department. Christina’s favorite thing about teaching is being able to provide students with life skills that they will use after graduating, no matter what career path or educational path students pursue. In her spare time, she enjoys biking, reading, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her husband and cats.

Joanna Trudgeon has been teaching math at WBL North Campus since the fall of 2013. Her first career was a mechanical engineer which she did for 13 years beginning in 1991. When education started strongly calling her, she earned her Master’s in Teaching and taught at Centennial High School starting in 2006. At North Campus, Joanna has been a building rep and an executive board member for several years. She is a CIT leader for the math department. The best part about her job is the connecting with students and getting them to access and develop their problem solving skills. In her spare time, Joanna likes to garden, walk, do yoga, camp, and spend time with her husband, dog, and (3) adult children.

I have been a teacher and union member at Otter Lake since 1998.  I am a music specialist. My reason for being in the union leadership is to support my colleagues with advocacy and support for the work they do with our students.  I live in the WBL community as well.
